Send large files for free, without signing up

Email attachments stop at a few dozen megabytes. Messengers compress videos or refuse big files outright. Cloud drives work, but you sign in, upload, create a share link, and then sign in again on the other side.

If the sending and receiving devices are on the same Wi-Fi, there is a shorter path. Open the same page in a browser on both, and they connect on their own. Each file can be up to 5GB and arrives as the original. No account, no app, no payment.

How to send

  1. Connect the sending and receiving devices to the same Wi-Fi (the same router). Phone to PC, PC to PC and phone to tablet all work.
  2. Open https://www.clipboardapp.org/en/ in a browser on each device. Devices on the same network are grouped under the Same network tab automatically. There is no sign-up, no login and no six-digit code.
  3. On the sending device, tap the Upload File card or drag the file onto the page. You can pick several files at once. Each file can be up to 5GB, progress is shown, and you can cancel with the ✕ button.
  4. When the file shows up on the receiving device, press Receive to save it. Files are cleaned up within about a day, so download what you need right away.

When this is handy

  • Moving a long phone video or a few hundred photos to a computer without a messenger shrinking them.
  • Getting a file onto a work or school PC where you would rather not sign in to a personal account.
  • Mixed devices, such as Mac and Windows or iPhone and Android, where AirDrop and Quick Share do not reach.
  • Handing a design file, archive or raw video to the computer next to you when it is over the email attachment limit.

Good to know

  • Speed depends on your Wi-Fi. Keep the phone screen on while a big upload runs. If it gets cut off, choose the same file again and the upload continues from where it stopped.
  • On shared networks such as an office or a school, items in the Same network tab may be visible to other people on that network. Delete sensitive files once they are downloaded.
  • For backups in the tens of gigabytes, an external drive or a cable is still the better tool.

Questions

Is it really free with no sign-up?

Yes. There is no account and no payment feature. Open the page in a browser and start, with nothing to install.

How large can a file be?

Up to 5GB per file and 10GB in total per shared space. Files over 100MB are uploaded in parts, so if the connection drops you can pick the same file again and it resumes. For anything over 5GB, split it with an archive tool first.

When are the files deleted?

Shortly after every device closes the page, and within about a day even while devices stay connected. It is for moving files now, not for storing them.

Can I send to someone on a different network?

Use the Everyone tab on both devices. Items there are visible to anyone who has the service open, so keep personal files on the Same network tab.
