Online clipboard for files and images
Most online clipboards are built for a paragraph of text. The moment you need to move a screenshot, a PDF or a phone video, you end up emailing it to yourself or sending it through a messenger that shrinks the image.
Clipboard Share treats files and images the same way as text. Paste a screenshot or drop a file on one device and it shows up on your other device, ready to download at full quality. Devices on the same Wi-Fi find each other automatically, so there is no code to type.
How to do it
- Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network. A desktop on Ethernet counts as long as it sits behind the same router.
- Open https://www.clipboardapp.org/en/ in a browser on each device. Devices on the same network are grouped automatically under the Same network tab, so there is no code or link to pass around.
- On a computer, take a screenshot or copy an image, then press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac) anywhere on the page. On a phone, tap the Paste card and allow clipboard access.
- For PDFs, videos, archives or any other file, click the Upload File card or drag the file onto the page. Each file can be up to 5GB, and an interrupted upload resumes instead of starting over.
- The item appears on the other device within a second or two. Press Receive to download the file. For images, the more menu also lets you copy the picture straight to that device's clipboard or show a QR code.
- Shared files are deleted shortly after every device leaves, and even while devices stay connected they are cleaned up within about a day. Download anything you want to keep.
Good to know
- Nothing is read from your clipboard in the background. Only what you paste or upload on purpose is shared.
- A single shared space holds up to 10GB in total, and each file up to 5GB. Bigger uploads are sent in parts, so a dropped connection picks up where it stopped.
- Every device in the space gets a random animal name, and each item shows which device sent it, so you can tell your laptop's screenshot from your phone's.
- On Android, add the page to your home screen and it appears in the share sheet of your gallery and file apps.
Questions
Can an online clipboard hold files, not just text?
Yes. Text, screenshots and files all go through the same page. Images can be pasted directly; other files go through the Upload File card or drag and drop, up to 5GB per file.
Are images compressed?
No. Files and images are stored as the original file, so a photo or screenshot downloads at the same size and quality it was uploaded with.
What if the two devices are on different networks?
Switch to the Everyone tab on both devices. Items there can be seen by anyone who has the service open, so keep personal files and documents on the Same network tab when you can.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
No. There is no account and no app. Any current browser works, on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, iPad or a Chromebook.
